Physical description: Simon is somewhat short and lean, with dark blue hair that is short in length (reaching no lower than beneath his ears). Atop his head he wears a pair of red goggles, and along with that, his attire includes a blue and red jacket with the logo of the Gurren Brigade on the back, a belt and bandages around his lower chest, a pair of brown shorts, socks, and shoes. The only other notable thing is that, around his neck, he wars the core drill, which is the key to Lagann, a small Ganmen that he can pilot.
Abilities: None, really, because he doesn't have Lagann with him, and he's not really a good fighter without it, although his Core Drill was able to kill Genome in episode 15, but that's about it.
[Personality]
Simon comes across as very shy and uncertain at times. He has a low self esteem and often becomes nervous in tough situations. When he arrived, he was hostile and isolated because of Kamina's death, treating very few with any decency. This, of course, has changed, and he is now back to behaving like his old self, due to Kamina actually being around, and the other friends that he's made.Although he has become a bit more confident since arriving in vortexx, he still can be quite timid on occasion.
[Biography]
For almost all of Simon's life, he lived underground in a place called Jiiha village. When he was seven years old, his parents had died in an earthquake, which not only gave him a great fear of tremors and the likes, but also left him without anyone to care for him, and caused him to have a lack of self esteem. He became a digger for the village, ironically enough, and helped expand it deeper into the ground, but because he didn't care for himself, a majority of the other adults and children thought of him as disgusting.
However, he did have one friend, Kamina, an older boy full of ambition, who wanted nothing more than to break through to the surface, which he had supposedly been to with his father when he was a child. This wish would come true eventually, as one day, when digging, Simon had discovered a "giant face". He and Kamina had gotten in trouble shortly before this, Kamina being punished, although Simon helped him escape, so he could show him this face.
However, a strange machine (Kamina mistook this for the Giant Face) fell into the village, along with a girl named Yoko, and it began to attack. Shortly after, Simon showed both Kamina and Yoko the actual "face", a small mecha, which would later be called Lagann. Using Lagann, Simon did manage to defeat the larger mech (a Ganmen), and he, Kamina, and Yoko ended up on the surface.
It was there that things would only become worse as, apparently, there were more Ganmen on the surface, there to eliminate any and all humans. These Ganmen were controlled by creatures called Beastmen, who were later revealed to work for the Helix King.
Along the way, Kamina had managed to steal a Ganmen for himself, which he called Gurren, and later, Lagann and Gurren combined to a form "Gurren-Lagann". Using this unification they were able to defeat many a Ganmen.
However, this all came to an end after one small incident. The Gurren Brigade (which now consisted of not only Simon, Kamina, and Yoko, but also Leeron, Rossiu, Kittan, and some others) had to face what would be one of the largest Ganmen yet, a ship called the Dai-Ganzen. Simon alone would have to use Lagann to control the ship, but before the attack, he had seen Kamina and Yoko kissing. This was upsetting to him because, at the time, he had developed a crush on Yoko.
While he tried his best to fight, and he did combine with the Dai-Ganzen, he became too distracted and ended up losing control. Because of this, Kamina had to come up and punch some sense back into Simon. In doing so, however, he was wide open, and as Kamina returned to the Gurren, he was attacked and fatally wounded.
Still, Kamina and Simon were able to combine with Gurren lagann one last time, winning the battle. Before Kamina died, he told Simon "Believe in yourself. Not me who believes in you, not you who believes in you, but you who believes in yourself."
Even so, the loss of Kamina affected all of the brigade, especially Simon, who lost his spark altogether. It was shortly after his "Aniki's" death that he found himself in vortexx.
[Relationships]
Canon-
Kamina: His "brother", and the one person he looks up to. They've been through a lot, and he's glad that Kamina is around, even if it's still hard to adjust to the fact that he's alive and kicking.
Nia: Simon has come to really care for Nia. When he first arrived, she treated him with kindness, and since then they've gotten very close. Although she's the daughter of the Helix King, he doesn't mind, since she clearly has no idea what her father was doing. Recently she became his girlfriend, which, admittedly was unexpected, but he doesn't mind at all. &hearts
Yoko: Initially Simon had a crush on her, but he's put that aside for now, since her feelings for Kamina are obvious. She's still a good friend, of course, and he's glad that she's around as well.
Viral: Kamina's rival, and an enemy. He dislikes Viral quite a bit.
Vortexx-
Jim: Another one of the first people to treat him kindly, Simon sees him as a good friend, and he's very interested in how much he knows about the surface, and even space. Hopefully he'll explain some of this in the future.
Haruko: At first, Simon hated her for teasing him, picking on him, reminding him of Kamina's death, and other things, but he almost respects her now. Almost. The fact that she knows so much about what's supposed to happen to his world, however, is creepy, but now he's determined to figure out what's up with the whole Anti Spiral business and stop it. (In other words, Haruko and her fourth wall breaking rapes canon. :D)
Dark Link: He doesn't know him well, but the fact that he kills people so often frightens Simon like crazy.
Haruhi: Simon is somewhat unnerved by Haruhi and her 'penalties', along with the fact that she dragged him into her club just because he was sleeping at the pizza hut. She's not necessarily a bad person to him, but she's...different.
Roxas: At first Simon thought Roxas was small child who showed him what ice cream was, but now that he's his normal age, Simon is interested in getting to know him without him being under the influence of Zexion's age vials.
Shadow: Simon mistook him for a beastman, and they've only spoken once, but he's interested in the hedgehog and wants to know about his "Chaos Control".
Yuki: ...Kinda creepy, a bit too smart, but he thinks she's alright, at least.
Ruby: LOUD... not to mention kinda strange, although she's pretty nice.
Seles: They spoke once, but she seems like a nice person, not to mention smart. She seems to have come from a world where humans can live on the surface as well, which is interesting, and Simon plans on asking her what "gald" is at some point.
